Why did you decide to study Computer Science?
I always knew that computer science would play a central role in our lives. I mean, smartphones, laptops but also Google, Instagram and Netflix take a central role in today's life. These devices and platforms are relevant not only at work, but also in our personal lives and everywhere in between, and they have changed the society forever. While it's one thing to use such tools, it's another to understand their inner workings. For example, computer science reveals how data flows through the Internet, how an iPhone streams video, how a car calculates a route, or how the Internet uses search engines to provide millions of answers to questions within fractions of a second.
What made you decide to study Computer Science at the University of St. Gallen?
When I came across the Computer Science Programme at the University of St. Gallen, it gave me a sense of limitlessness, as I could become an expert in different fields. I can specialize in Data Science or Software and Systems Engineering, and at the same time I get an insight into Entrepreneurship. In short, I find the combination of computer science with entrepreneurship very unique.
What do you appreciate about studying at the University of St. Gallen?
At HSG, I have met students from other disciplines who also bring different skills and experiences. These encounters enrich my everyday study life and always give me new and exciting impulses. I also appreciate the close contact with the professors, with whom I can also be on a first-name basis. I had the chance to found the Geniusbar together with the president of the SQUARE. Geniusbar is a regular event where business and computer science students get together and hold certain talks, followed by a fruitful discussion with pizza and beer.
Why are you acting as one of our hosts in the “Student for a Day”-Programme?
I want to give the people a glimpse into the MCS studies. Through the Student for a Day initiative, people get the opportunity to talk to the students as well as professors. Above all, people get an insight into the lectures. As a MCS student I want to share my experiences with the people who register for an Student for a Day and that's why I want to be a part of this program.
